History of
Venus
Venus
was named by J.C. Smyth in the late 1880s after the daughter of a
local doctor. The area that is now Venus was formerly known as
Gossip. In 1888 a post office opened, and by 1890 Venus had ten
residents. Soon Venus was a thriving community with several
churches, a grade school, Burnetta College, numerous businesses,
three banks and a newspaper - The Venus Express. Venus was
incorporated in 1903. In the 2000 census, Venus had a population
of 910. |
